Anchor Magnetic Drink System - A coaster-based way to keep any drink in place

Industrial Design Refinement, Mechanical Concepts, Mechanical Design & Design Engineering, Prototype, Production Management, & Design for Manufacturability

The Anchor Drink System started when the client came to Pillar Product Design searching for a product that could help prevent beverages of various sizes and shapes from tipping over when onboard a boat. Other team members worked on the project, developing the initial design concepts, and I was tasked with taking over the project, finalizing the industrial and mechanical design concepts, and then developing the mechanical design in SOLIDWORKS. I then created prototype collateral including a full bill of materials for our prototype provider. After testing the prototype we took the project into production, but due to some undisclosed production method limitations we had to do a mechanical redesign to improve the overmold moldability. In the end we delivered production collateral and aided with the First Article process for the Bainbridge Island, WA-based company.

The system also includes stick-on discs that enable the system to work with a wide range of large sized reusable container.

Design challenges included the ability to fit a wide range of different size cans and bottles, while holding them steady and allowing easy removal.
